Last week while pursuing one of my Mom’s old BBC GoodHome books, I came across a grey bedroom scheme which spurred me to create my very own moodboard. Here, I painted a feature wall in a stormy gray for a serene yet elegant feel. The exposed brick surrounding the windows creates textural interest. Bleached wood floorboards add warmth to the space and contrasts well with the other darker furniture pieces.
By keeping the bedding and chairs a crisp white, the space feels airy and light. Lavender complements grey beautifully and adds a splash of colour to the space through throw pillows. When using pillows try using the colour chosen in different ways to add dimension and interest in your space. Here I paired plain pleated ones with a mini argyle one and a frilled piece.
To give the space a more natural feel, plants have been placed around the bedroom to bring the outdoors into the room. Here, I’ve opted for small scale plants like a bonsai on the dresser and a medium scale one in a wicker vase. Wicker is another great way of bringing texture into any space without overwhelming the scheme. By placing a wicker basket as seen here, the bedroom has a more homely and inviting feel.
One of the things, I mostly love to do is mixing old pieces with new which I feel gives a more lived in feel. In this space, I used a mid-century style nightstand and a gold nail head cocktail table (which is used as a storage trunk) for an old world charm. It contrasts so well with the more sleeker lines of the dresser and bed. In other words, don’t be afraid of mixing it up now and then. The metal in the trunk has been carried throughout the scheme through the industrial style floor lamp and a figurine on the dresser.
For the lighting, I decided to go for a more contemporary style pendant light and lampshade though the base has a more distressed finish. A metal finished floor lamp provides adequate light for reading during evenings.
Accessories always add a personal touch to a space. Here, a vintage style clock ties in with the old world charm. While bookends in a metal and stone finish plays with the natural theme and setting of the space. Scented candles have been also placed on the dresser to give a more elegant and welcoming feel. It also keeps the room feeling and smelling fresh. While art of different sizes has been hung over the bed to create visual interest. A grey throw blanket and curtains in a white and grey colourway ties in with the wall colour for a unified scheme. Last, but not least a white rug with subtle grey detailing anchors the scheme.
